If you're against alimony entirely, that's one thing. (And keep in mind, alimony is completely different from child support.) But if you're not against it for the woman...can you be against it for the man?
Check out this article from the Wall Street Journal.
She gets a little snide there at the end, with her suggestion that men only use alimony to support a lavish lifestyle, aka owning lots of muscle cars. Nonetheless, it does make you think.
Is this an issue I care a lot about? No. It does, however, seem to tie into the previous conversation about abortion in some way.
I love the quote from the one woman-- "I don't understand why someone becomes your financial responsibility just because you married them..."

I can't be bothered to read that article, but alimony should def go both ways. Women are on the receiving end more often because women tend to be the "homemakers" (or whatev you want to call them) while the men have jobs outside the home. Imagine getting a divorce and suddenly having to support yourself when you spent the last 15 years (give or take) raising children and not learning new job skills.
I agree with hops on that one. I deal with clients that are going through a hard time. Most of the women are divorced and are receiving child support or alimony. This one very rare case i had the woman told me she was paying child support, i was like woah, i tought only guys did that, not really thought but assumed since i never heard of a woman paying it. So it should be a two way road. Women and Men are equals just very different, but if men have to pay alimony then women should too, now to find me a rich lady, to divorce, muahahahahahaha!
